- Make a paper star from construction paper, wrapping paper or cellophane (for very advanced star-makers). The patterns on wrapping paper will make a unique star every time. The strip required to make a paper star is about 1 inch wide and 20 inches long. Once you've chosen your paper and cut your strip, proceed to folding.
- Hold the paper strip pattern-side up. At the top of the strip, make a 2-inch loop, as if you were about to knot the top of the paper. Once you've tucked the top of the strip through the loop, gently pull the loop until it tightens gently around itself. Then you flatten your "knot" instead of tying it tight. The end result is a little box with about 1/2 inch of the top of the strip sticking out the side, and the long rest of the strip hanging down. Tuck that 1/2 inch behind the knot. You'll be left with a pentagon. Grasp the long end of the strip, and begin wrapping the strip up and around the pentagon. The paper will fold at the exact angles of your star/pentagon shape. Keep folding until you run out of paper strip. Tuck the end into the fold.
- Pinch the corners of the star to make them sharper. Take your fingernails and push the middle of each side section until the paper puffs out. As you manipulate the star this way, it will become fatter and more three-dimensional. The sides will bend inward slightly. Your paper star is complete.
