Hair dye is a chemical mixture that alters the natural color of a person's hair. Both men and women use hair dye. While it is cheaper to buy a hair dye kit and initiate the process at home, there's a greater chance of unevenness or error if performed by yourself. Having a salon dye your hair is more expensive, but the job will be considerably more professional. There are a few different styles that can be attained with hair dye.

    Full Color

  1. Changing the entire color of a head of hair at home is an easy process for anyone with short hair, but people with long hair should get dyed at the salon. Long hair requires more than one box of hair dye, so the process will be very tedious and complicated.

When people with dark hair dye their hair entirely blond, it is called "bleaching" hair.

If you want to cover up gray hair, get touch up dyes. Try to buy a color that is as close to your natural shade as possible.
  2. Highlights

  3. Highlights work best for people with darker hair. Highlights are streaks of light color that give hair a sun-kissed look. Both natural black and brunette hairstyles will work with highlights. Blond and platinum are the most popular colors for highlights, but some women also get streaks of pink, bright red or some other bold, unnatural color.

If you're a man who's thinking about getting highlights, they're called tips, and they're always blond. But tips went out of style years ago, so don't go for this style unless it's some sort of 90s Halloween costume.
  4. Lowlights

  5. Lowlights are often more fashionable than highlights lately. They look less assuming than highlights due to their darker streaks. People with blond and red hair will more often get lowlights instead of highlights.

A trendy way to do lowlights is to get a layered haircut and only dye the lower or top layer dark.
Most men don't get lowlights, but it might become a fashion trend soon. If you're a light-haired guy who wants to try something daring and new, ask a stylist to give you lowlights.
