People who are mentally disabled and need special care are normally in the hands of a devoted mental health tech. Mental health techs work at hospitals,clinics and private institutions. They assist in the well-being of patients by helping them with their day-to-day activities. Salaries for mental health techs vary depending on geographical location and the type of institution.

    Salary Range

  1. According to the salary wizard from salary.com, salaries for mental health techs range from $25,000 to $35,000 a year. Salary is also based on the type of education--most mental health techs have associate's degrees. In some cases, two-year training in a hospital setting will also qualify a person to become a mental health tech and to be compensated at a median range, around $28,000.

  3. As with any job, employment length can play a part in how much a mental health tech can make. Mental health techs who continue their education and become mental health nurses can earn from $40,000 to $80,000 a year depending on the nature of the work.
