Grapefruit Juice Diet


Just about any diet will help you lose weight, if you can stick to it. This diet has been around since the 1970s and plenty of people swear by it. Pop Star Kylie Minogue has her own version of the fad diet and calls it her secret weapon (Reference 1).

Grapefruit is the fat burning weapon

This is a 12-day diet. Start it on a Monday and you will only have to endure low calories through one weekend. The star of this diet is grapefruit. The assumption is that grapefruit has fat burning qualities (Reference 2). There is no scientific proof, but plenty of people swear that it works.

The ground rules

Each meal is accompanied by grapefruit. You will also need to drink at least eight glasses of water and black coffee is allowed at any time. Stay clear of complex carbohydrates like bread, potatoes and rice. Eat plenty of non-starchy vegetables and feel free to cook them in butter. Eat until you are full. Be sure not to eliminate any food or food combination listed. It is not OK to eat in between meals.

The diet master plan

Breakfast: Grapefruit with two eggs, two slices of bacon Lunch: Grapefruit with salad, any dressing, any meat in any amount Dinner: Grapefruit with salad or a red or green vegetable, meat or fish cooked any style, coffee or tea Bedtime snack: 8 oz. tomato juice or skim milk (Reference 3)


Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can adversely affect some medications. Check with your physician before beginning this diet if you regularly take any type of medication.
