- Use dolls to bring out colors in the house. If your sofa, curtains or wallpaper have a minor color, such as a thin blue stripe, you might create dolls wearing that same shade of blue. Perhaps you have a floral print on your furniture or walls, then your dolls might all be wearing hats with flowers circling the brims, or they could be holding baskets of flowers or wearing floral print dresses. Maybe you have solid colors in the house. The dolls could then match drapes or throw pillows. Or, maybe your room could use an infusion of color, in which case the dolls could add contrasting colors.
- Use dolls to cover objects, such as a toaster. Cover dolls have a square wooden base which supports the torso. They have no legs; they have a bell skirt instead. So the top of the doll can be a stuffed doll or you could use a cut torso of another doll. The base rests atop objects, like toasters, while the skirt flares around, covering the object. She's much like a tea cozy. You can make dolls to cover numerous objects, such as CD boom-boxes, coffee makers or cable boxes, for example. Cover anything you feel is distracting from the room when not in use.
- Whatever dolls you make, they can create a theme throughout the house. Every room might have the same doll, but in a different colored outfit to compliment the room. Or, perhaps the dolls reflect something special about the room; for instance, a little girl doll in your daughter's room, a boy doll in your son's room, or a pair of dolls in the parent's room. The living room might have a family of dolls, one for each member. The dolls can even be made to have the same hair and eye colors. With the help of T-shirt transfers, actual family member faces could be printed, then ironed onto the rag dolls' faces.
