- Raw foodists consume the purest foods possible. Select only organic foods, which are free from chemicals, toxins and are not genetically modified. You may choose to grow your own organic produce to ensure raw food purity. (See Resources for organic gardening tips.) If you purchase raw food, natural grocers offer a full array of organic raw foods. Many supermarkets carry some organic grains, produce and nuts.
- Select from a variety of organic foods to complete a raw food diet: vegetables, sprouts, seeds, grains, sea vegetables, nuts and fruits. Combine raw organic foods in salads and smoothies. Refer to raw food recipes for variety and flavor (see Resources). Once you practice raw food preparation, you may create your own delicious raw food recipes.
- Cultivate your own living food by making sprouts. Begin with organic alfalfa seeds, sunflower seeds, grains and other seeds. Rawfoodideas.com reports that sprouting releases food's latent oils, carbohydrates and protein. All you need for a sprout garden are jars, cheesecloth and a warm dark place. Eat fresh sprouts within a day or two of harvest.
- As you become a seasoned raw foodist, you will experience the benefits of your choices. The purity of the food will energize your body, giving you a feeling of wellness. According to the rawfoodlife.com, your raw organic food diet will strengthen your immune system. Since raw foods have no animal fat, you likely will lose weight.
