Kitchen

Gingham material for the kitchen or an eating nook adds a country feel for window treatments. Café style curtains are ideal for gingham fabric for these windows. A café curtain is short and hangs straight from the lower half of the window on rings or a pocket rod. The top half of the window can display another set of café curtains or a valance. The entire curtain can be made from gingham or use gingham fabric as a decorative edging or ruffle on the bottom half of the curtain. Add a valance of matching fabric for the top of the window. Gingham is a light-weight fabric that will allow light to filter through even when the curtains are closed. A pretty gingham apron hanging from a hook will tie the whole look together or make a table cloth to match the curtains.
Baby's Room
-
Gingham can be found in any color and is often used in a baby's room. Hang curtains along side a sheer curtain for a light and airy look. Pastel colors in blue or pink will complement any newborns room and will not dominate the décor. Yellow and green are a wonderful choice when the baby's gender is not known before the birth. Add bedding to match the color of the curtains. Mount shades to the window to darken the room since gingham will not block out sunlight.

Girl's Bedroom

Ruffled Priscilla curtains made from gingham will make any little girl feel like a princess. Priscilla curtains hang from a rod pocket and have ruffles on the inside and bottom edges of the curtain. Pull the panels to the side of the window with a matching tie and hook to a tie-back. Add a matching valance to the top to hide the rod and create an even more feminine look to the treatment. Gingham is light-weight and is perfect for this type of style. Adding a frilly dust ruffle for her bed in matching gingham will delight any little girl.
Appliqué
-
Give a fresh look to ordinary curtains with gingham appliqués. Change the look of kitchen curtains with gingham appliqués of roosters or teapots. Create a simple template and cut several designs using the same fabric or vary the colors. Machine stitch the appliqués to the existing curtains with a zigzag stitch. Use the same technique to embellish a baby's room with teddy bears or animals. Sew buttons for eyes and sew a bow to the neck.
