- Start Mozilla Firefox and click on "Bookmarks" in the menu. From the drop-down menu, select "Organize Bookmarks." This will open a new window that allows in-depth editing of your bookmarks. From here, there are two options. Clicking "Import and Backup" lets you choose to back up your bookmarks or to export them in HTML. For simplicity, we will choose the "Backup" option. A dialog box will appear; choose where to save the backup. To save all your user information, including extensions, go to the "Profiles" menu and choose "Backup" in the same way. Copy this saved backup onto a portable storage device or to the new computer over a network.
- Once you have your backup on the new Windows Vista machine, open Mozilla Firefox on the new machine and navigate to the same "Organize Bookmarks" dialog. From here, choose "Restore" and select the backup you previously made. This will restore all of your bookmark settings. If you are trying to restore an entire profile, you will choose "Restore" in the "Profile" dialog so Firefox will restore all your settings and extensions.
