Every graduation should celebrate the senior class. Each class enters and exits to "Pomp and Circumstance" and everyone walks across the stage to receive their diploma, but if you add a theme to the ceremony, you can put a nice twist on tradition.
Graduation is not an end, but the close of one chapter and the beginning of another. It is worth celebrating and there are many ways to do just that. You want to choose a theme that reflects the personality of the graduating class. The following are a few ideas that may describe and inspire your graduating class:
"The Best is Yet to Come": This theme indicates that your graduating class has not yet shown to the world what you are capable of accomplishing. When designing the programs, it might be a nice touch not only list each member of the graduating class, but next to their name write their career aspirations. As your class exits, play the Frank Sinatra song of the same title and strut as you march out. It will put a fun twist on the traditional ceremony.
"We are Heroes": If your graduating class is focused on community service, in the program or during the ceremony, share a few instances in which your class did something for the world or community. Instead of listing your names, have some students finish the following line: "I will change the world by..." followed by their name. As the class marches out for the recessional, play a heroic tune, like the theme to Superman or Rocky.
"Never Would Have Made It": Parents and teachers play a huge role in the success of their children, so why not share it with them, or express your gratitude. A great way to say thank you, is giving those people who helped you along the way the gift of song. "Never would have made it" by Marvin Sapp, is not just a gospel song, but also the lyrics express love and thanks to someone who, if they had not been there to help, you might not have made it.
"Friends Forever": This is a good theme for the graduating class that is small or very close. Instead of coming down the aisle in alphabetical order, try coming down with your best friend from school. This may be a nightmare when handing out diplomas, but who said that had to be done in alphabetical order? Any song about having great friends will do for the exit.
