- You can go after small mouth bass with 7-foot spinning rods and 8-to-10 pound test line. In the fall, you get the biggest smallies of the season and many of them are sitting near the bottom of Ontario's large and beautiful lakes. You can go after them with jigs and the best colors for attracting them are black, smoke, purple, amber, yellow, and white.
- When going after large mouth bass in the fall, head for deeper water. The later in the season the deeper the large mouth bass like to go. They also like to head for the weeds and the rock. The rocks are almost always a haven for large mouth bass because they heat up and the bass like to feel the warmth. Try a flipping jig when going after the large mouth bass and make sure you include some pork. Be patient because these fish are not always willing to play.
- The small-mouth bass also head for the deep water in the fall. Even deeper than the large mouth bass. Look for the small mouth bass at the 25-to-35 foot range and breakout the crankbait and the jigs. Small mouth bass love crank and are quite a bit more enthusiastic than large mouth bass.
