Favors to Make for a Family Reunion

Family reunions carry the stigma of stuffy affairs full of crazy, long-lost relatives. Although this may ring true for some families, most reunions offer guests a chance to catch up and share fond memories from the past. Whether this is the first reunion or you have one every year, favors add a special touch to the event. Homemade family reunion favors save money and allow you to customize them.

    Welcome Bag

  1. This functional favor allows you to include important reunion information such as the agenda or tickets to special events. It also allows for fun extras such as candy, disposable cameras, paper fans and theme-related treats. Place all of the items into a decorated lunch bag or favor bag, tied with a ribbon. If the contents inside the bag are different for each person, mark the name clearly on the outside of each bag to ensure they get to the correct people.
  2. Memory Books

  3. Create memory books based on past reunions and family stories. Several weeks before the reunion, contact the guests to ask for contributions to the book. Ask for something specific, such as a family tradition, or let the contributors share anything they want for the book. Collecting pictures from everyone provides a wider variety for the book. Compile the memories and photos into a book format. A copy shop can provide high-quality copies of the pages and bind them for you. Leave some blank pages in the back for the guests to write memories from the current reunion or to collect signatures.
  4. Personlized Candy Bars

  5. Personalized candy bar wrappers allow you to create customized treats for the guests. Ideas for the wrappers include the family name, date of the reunion and the theme of the event, if one is chosen. Several websites sell pre-made templates for the wrappers that allow you to add custom touches. You can also create your own template using imaging software. Print the wrappers on glossy paper, cutting them out after printing. Wrap the paper around a chocolate candy bar, and use glue or tape to hold it in place.

Another option involving candy is to fill cellophane bags with your favorite sweet treat. Create customized tags for the candy using a word processing program. Print the tags on card stock, cut them out and attach them to the bags with ribbon.
  6. Shirts

  7. Decorated T-shirts provide both a favor and a party activity. Ask each guest to bring a plain white T-shirt. Set up a tie-dying area, allowing each person to customize her shirt. Fabric paint allows the guests to add more decoration. You can also skip the tie-dye process and only use fabric paints.

Another option is to design an image for the shirts and have them screen printed before the reunion. The guests can add additional personalization with fabric paint.
