To progress in the game, you will need to use each Kong's skills to collect the golden bananas hidden throughout the game's levels. There are 200 golden bananas in the game. Each level, including the central hub, contains 25 bananas, five for each Kong.
Explore each level thoroughly. Keep an eye out for conspicuous ledges or vines, since these will often lead to secret areas. Use the first-person mode often when traversing a level, since some rooms or switches will be hidden above or below you. Watch for coconut switches to hit with your coconut shooter or musical pads to activate your musical instruments.
When you confront an enemy, watch its attack pattern before trying to defeat it. Know its movements so you can hit it without sustaining any damage. Experiment with different attacks and weapons. The Simian Slam can hit enemies that are grouped together, while orange bombs can damage armored enemies.
Make use of each Kong's special moves. For example, Diddy Kong can perform a Simian Spring on Diddy pads to reach high ledges, while Tiny Kong can shrink to fit into small holes. Collect banana coins to purchase new abilities from Cranky. You can also visit Funky to purchase new weapons and Candy to purchase musical instruments. Make sure to purchase new abilities as soon as you have enough coins, since they are necessary to reach new levels and hidden areas.
Collect the small bananas as you traverse a level. If you collect 75 small bananas in a level, you will earn a medallion. There are five possible medallions per level, one for each Kong. Collect 15 medallions and give them to Cranky to unlock the "Jetpac" minigame. Collect all the medallions to add to your completion percentage.
Take Tiny Kong to DK Island and enter the Tiny barrel. Enter the small hole nearby to find the banana fairy queen, who will give you the banana camera. Use the banana camera to take pictures of other banana fairies hidden throughout the levels. If you hear the sound of giggling, this means that a fairy is nearby. Fairy pictures will unlock new game content in the "Mystery Menu," such as the "DK Theater" or the original "Donkey Kong" arcade game. Collect all 20 fairy pictures and return to the fairy queen to gain the giant banana.
