Kids Slumber Party Games

Slumber parties are a time to bond with friends and make memories for a lifetime. Plan an evening of games that will keep the kids busy until bedtime. Before guests arrive, gather supplies for the party games. You could even ask other parents to send some of the supplies if you need help.

  1. Personalized Pillowcases

    • Before the slumber party, count how many guests will be coming. You'll need to purchase enough standard pillowcases for each guests. Choose the same color for everyone to avoid fights later. Prewash the pillowcases before the party. After they've dried you might want to iron them flat.

Buy some fabric paint pens for the girls to personalize their pillowcases. Give them pieces of cardboard to put inside the pillowcase to keep the paints from running or bleeding through to the other side. You may want to write each girl's name on her pillowcase in neat calligraphy letters.

Right after the girls arrive, have them draw such things on their pillowcases as butterflies, flowers and swirls. Let each girl sign their friends' pillows. Let them dry overnight to be sure the paint isn't wet. This will make a fun keepsake for kids to have for years to come.

    Blindfold Tasting

    • Before the girls settle down for the night, let them play the blindfold game. Use some small Dixie cups to put various foods in. You might use applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt, popcorn and hot dog pieces. Give them sweet treats to try, too, such as ice cream, caramel and chocolate syrup. One at a time, blindfold your guests with a tie or a soft belt from a robe. Then spoon-feed them from the "secret cups." Let them guess what food they are tasting. Don't let the other girls see what the taster is eating.

    Gossip Game

    • The Gossip Game is fun, fast-paced and easy to play. This game is also perfect for little girls, too. Have the guests sit down among their sleeping bags in a circle. You start the game by whispering a secret into one girl's ear. The other girls shouldn't be able to hear you, and you can tell her the secret only once. It should be a simple sentence that can easily be remembered and repeated. For example, you could say, "Mike really likes stuffed purple monkeys." The sentence shouldn't be derogative or mean-spirited. Just keep it lighthearted and silly.

The girl repeats the sentence or "gossip" into the ear of the next girl. They have only one chance to say it correctly. When the "gossip" reaches the end of the circle, have the last person say it out loud. You can play this game over and over again and never get the same sentence right.
