Homemade Blow Guns

Blow guns stereotypically are used by African tribes as weapons to kill small prey. Other types of blow guns, such as the spit wad, are much more common in modern society. This type of exotic weaponry can be fun if handled correctly. However, finding one is not easy.

Gather the Materials and Making Your Own

  1. To make a blow gun, you'll need a small plastic pipe, 8-by-11 paper, decent tape, candle wax, and small nails.
  2. Making the Ammo

  3. First, fold the right corner of the paper to the left side of the paper so that the top of the paper remains unfolded and lines up with the left side of the paper. Now cut away the excess paper so you have a perfect triangle and a rectangular strip of paper. Put your finger at a 45-degree angle from any corner to its opposite side. Now roll the paper around your finger until you form a cylinder. Put the nail into the cylinder, and tighten it up around the nail. Then tape the tip of the paper and nail together. Get some hot wax from a lit candle, and evenly poor it into the cylinder. This will add weight to the dart and strength to the nail and piece of paper. Check to see how well your dart fits inside your plastic pipe. The paper should fit snugly into the tube, without having to be forced too hard to fit. If it does not fit, make another dart, and adjust accordingly. If a dart is too large, the tube will jam. If the dart is too small, it will be pushed out of a tube at a fast speed.
  4. Firing the Gun

  5. With a correctly matched caliber dart, put the dart into the tube, with the nail pointing out the firing point of your pipe. Put your mouth over the opposite end of the pipe, and blow violently for just enough time to get the dart out of the tube. If executed correctly, the dart will go flying out very quickly, getting lodged in the target.
