Weight benches are a significant expense in any fitness room. When a tear in the seat or back padding occurs, it can feel irritating against the skin and be costly to have repaired. Duct tape is a reliable and cost-effective fix for even the most extensive weight bench tears. Strong duct tape is available in a variety of colors to match any weight room motif and can be easily applied by even the novice handy-person.

Repair the Bench

Trim and dispose of any loose strings at the tear site.

Measure the tear on the bench and cut a piece of tape 1 inch longer on each side.

Affix the tape over the tear on the bench, making sure to cover the opening completely. It may be necessary to use more than one piece of tape if the tear is wide. Press the tape for 60 seconds to seal.

Tips

Ask a friend to hold the tear closed while taping to ensure an even seal.

Warnings

Tape may need to be reapplied after a couple of months.
