Formal Suits Designing
There are three main components to formal men's suit-designing: style, fabric and pattern. When designing a men's suit, consider the man you are designing the suit for. What is his body type? Where will he be wearing the suit? What is his personal style? Once you have decided what type of look you want to achieve, designing the suit will be easy. Does this Spark an idea?

Style
-
There are four primary styles of men's suits: Italian, British, American and Mandarin. Choosing the right type depends on the body type of the man who will be wearing the suit. The Italian-style suit, also known as the European suit, consists of a double-breasted jacket with slit pockets and larger lapels. Italian suit pants are pleated, with a cuff that falls right at the shoe line or slightly above. British-style suits are single-breasted with three buttons, and come with pleated or double-pleated pants. The pants have a ¼ inch cuff at the bottom, and fall slightly above the shoe. American-style suits are the most relaxed form of suit, consisting of two buttons and no shoulder padding. The pants are neither pleated nor cuffed, and break naturally at the shoe. Mandarin-style suits are worn mostly by Eastern cultures, and consist of a jacket that buttons all the way to the collar, with 5 to 6 buttons. The shirt that is worn with this style of suit has a short, stiff collar that does not lie down, but instead stands upright--much like the shirts that Catholic priests wear.
Fabric
-
Choosing the right fabric for your suit depends on the weather in which the suit will be worn, although there are certain fabrics that work in any season. There are four main types of fabrics used for suits: Wool, flannel, linen and cotton. Wool is the most common fabric and can be worn year around. It is one of the more comfortable fabrics, it does not wrinkle easily and it is moisture-absorbent to keep you cool even in hot temperatures. Flannel is primarily a winter suit, and is not very common. Cotton is a popular fabric for American-style suits. It is durable and moisture-absorbing as well, so it keeps you comfortable in warm temperatures. Cotton suits are best for spring, summer, and fall, however typically not warm enough for winter temperatures. Cotton also is machine-washable, which is a major plus because most suits require dry-cleaning. Linen is a lightweight material that is ideal for very warm, tropical temperatures. Though linen suits are very cool and work well in the summer, they also wrinkle and crease easily, so they require a lot of care.

Pattern
-
Men's suits often consist of a slight pattern made by interweaving different-colored thread into the fabric. Popular patterns for men's suits are twill, houndstooth, herringbone, glenurquhart check and pinstripe. In twill, the fabric is weaved diagonally. Houndstooth is two different colors of a broken checkered pattern, usually black and white, and glenurquhart is a variation of smaller and larger checks. Herringbone is a series of tiny V's. Pinstripes are a pattern of different-colored parallel lines, usually in white or gray on black.
