Create simple Christmas crafts with Styrofoam balls, such as ornaments for your tree that incorporate ribbon and fabric. You can also make a holiday tree with Styrofoam balls and decorate it with paint and other embellishments for a festive centerpiece or a wall hanging.

    Ribbon Ornaments

  1. Cover Styrofoam balls with decorative Christmas ribbon to create an ornament for your holiday tree. Use hot glue or decorative pins to quickly attach the ribbon to the Styrofoam, or E6000 craft glue for a more permanent solution. Measure the circumference of your Styrofoam ball. Measure and cut strips of ribbon to fit vertically around the ball. Make as many ribbon strips as you need to cover the Styrofoam completely.

Hold the top of the ribbon in place with a pin, and then add a bead of glue to the ball and press the ribbon on top. Overlap each row of ribbon until ball is covered. Cut a small section of 1/8-inch ribbon and form a loop to make a hanger for your ornament. Attach the hanger with glue or a pin.
  2. Fluffy Fabric Ornament

  3. Another way to make an ornament for your Christmas tree with Styrofoam balls is to cover the ball with small swatches of fabric. You do not need glue or pins to attach the fabric, just a pencil or knitting needle.

Begin by cutting any holiday fabric into 1 1/4-inch squares. You can cut multiple swatches at a time if you layer the fabric and use a rotary cutter on top of a self healing mat. Make a hanger for your ornament with 1/8-inch ribbon, pinned or glued to the top of the ball. Add individual fabric swatches to the ball by pressing the center of the swatch into the Styrofoam with a pencil or a knitting needle.

Continue pressing the swatches all over the ball, keeping them tight together to make sure the Styrofoam is covered. The end result is a fluffy fabric ornament that you can hang on your tree or as part of your holiday garland.
  4. Christmas Tree

  5. Create a Christmas tree with styrofoam balls and toothpicks for a simple holiday decoration. Before you begin to assemble the tree, slice off the bottom tips of five Styrofoam balls. These are for the bottom row of your tree, so make sure that the balls are evenly sliced as you want your tree to stand straight.

Line the balls for your bottom row side by side, joined together with toothpicks on the sides. Insert a toothpick into the top center of each of the three Styrofoam balls in the middle of the row. Insert a toothpick into the top inside edge of the two outside balls.

Join four more balls together, side by side and attach them to the toothpicks at the top of your bottom row. Make another row with three, then two and then one at the top. Spray paint the Styrofoam tree and decorate it with sequins and colorful hat pins.
