- Before class starts, type and print the Ten Commandments onto paper. Make enough copies for everyone. Give each child two sheets of foam that have been rounded off at the tops, making them look like the original tablets on which the commandments were inscribed, and a copy of the list. They can use safety scissors to divide the lists into two, and then glue them in place on the foam pieces. Punch a hole in the top of each the foam pieces. Give children some ribbon to run between the two foam pieces and tie into a loop. Kids can give their Ten Commandments crafts to parents to hang on rear view mirrors or in the home.
- Have students cut paper bags in half and crumple them up well. This will make the bags easy to work on and give them the appearance of stone. Round off the top of each bag piece with scissors. Use a ruler and a pencil to lightly draw five lines on each half of the bag. Have the kids write five commandments on one half of the bag and five on the other, using brown pencil. They can then take their brown pencil, lay it sideways and rub along the edges of the "stones." Place the commandments in a picture frame. Displaying the Ten Commandments will help your students remember God's laws.
- Buy magnetic sheeting from an office supply store. Use a computer graphics program to design a Ten Commandments magnet for the refrigerator. Pick clip art in the shape of the two tablets. Inside the first tablet, add the Roman numbers I-V; then add VI-X to the other. Center the numbers on the tablets. Print the magnets onto the magnetic sheets and cut them out. Display your craft on the refrigerator. Make several and give some to friends.
