Ingredients
-
Vodka is an odorless form of alcohol which will add a cooling sensation to your fragrance and also act as a preservative to keep your homemade fragrance fresh. Distilled water works well in fragrance making because it is pure and free of chemicals found in tap water, though tap water will also work in this recipe. Bergamot, petit grain, lemon, orange and rosemary essential oils combine to make a fresh, citrus aroma in the homemade fragrance. Orange-flower water or rosewater will add to the aroma of the fragrance in a delicate way.
Equipment
-
You'll need a measuring cup for the vodka and water. Use a medicine dropper (purchased at any drug store) to measure and add essential oils to the fragrance mixture. You may want to use several different medicine droppers for different types of essential oils. Use a spoon or other utensil to stir the ingredients to ensure they become properly mixed. One coffee filter or some cheesecloth will be needed to strain the fragrance before storage. A lidded glass jar will be used to mix the fragrance. This can also be used to store the fragrance, or you may choose to use another lidded container or bottle.
Procedure
-
Combine a ¼ cup each of vodka and distilled water in the glass jar. Add 15 drops each bergamot, petit grain, and lemon essential oils. Add 5 drops each orange and rosemary oil. Mix the oils into the water and vodka combination. Cover the jar and allow the mixture to rest for two days. Next, add 2 tbsps. of orange-flower or rosewater to the mixture. Again, cover and allow the mix to rest for two days. After the allotted time has passed, strain the mixture through a coffee filter or cheesecloth and transfer it to the storage container. Shake well before using and use within 12 months.
