To create a rustic western look for your yard, include both functional pieces and decorative elements. The functional pieces---think chairs, tables, planters and metal fire pits---set the tone for the yard, and artistic things such as carvings and wagon wheels are the icing on the cake.

    Seating

  1. You can find a wide selection of outdoor chairs and benches to establish your western theme. Visit HomeGardenAndPatio.com to view rustic love seats made from reclaimed teak, or a two-seater bench with a wagon wheel for the back. Willow chairs from MadMoose.com seem like they're just off the ranch, and the log swings look mighty inviting at LodgeCraft.com.
  2. Dining Area

  3. Choose a backyard dining set to continue the rustic feel. At GreatRusticFurniture.com features teak tables with glass-topped wagon wheels, or pub tables that look like they're made of tree roots. As its name indicates, LogFurnitureGalore.com offers a variety of log dining tables and chairs, and you can even find a rustic teak table with a drop leaf at Rustic-Furniture-Showroom.com.
  4. Time to Plant

  5. Rustic planters combine beauty and functionality. HooksAndLattice.com features a large, handsome wood planter with wrought-iron accents; or try a rough-hewn teak planter at UniqueTeakFurniture.com. Mix and match these two styles---plus others---for several interesting focal points in your yard.
  6. Fire Pits

  7. Be sure to include a fire pit---it's the essence of western outdoor living. You can choose among several types at RockyMountainCabinDecor.com, including durable steel pits with moose and tree cutouts, and portable fire rings with silhouettes of running mustangs. RusticDecorating.com features a steel pit with cutouts of cowboys, boots, broncos and longhorns.
  8. Decorative Touches

  9. The artistic elements provide the crowning touch in your yard. At RockyMountainDecor.com, check out hand-carved wood cowboy hats to place on side tables or along the steps of your deck. Decorate the patio with a metal coyote or a roadrunner---with or without a rattlesnake in its mouth. Choose your favorite one at WranglerIron.com.

Then there are the western wind chimes, birdhouses with horseshoes and rustic signs with sayings such as "My Barn, My Rules." For a good selection, visit MyCowboyShop.com.
