A bob is easy, classic and flattering for any face shape. While some bobs look quite modern, you can also choose a retro bob hairstyle. Some bob haircuts can look quite fresh and new or retro, depending upon how you opt to style your hair. You can opt for a blunt or layered bob, and you can wear a bob from ear length to shoulder length, depending upon your preferences and personal style.

    The 1920's Bob

  1. The classic 1920's bob is quite short and can be worn with or without bangs. There are two basic variations on this retro bob haircut. The first is cut to the nape of the neck, typically falling evenly all around. The stacked bob was a more daring choice. The back of the hair was cut quite short, then the hair fell in an a-line shape with more length around the face. Bangs, if they were worn, were blunt and rather heavy. This retro bob can be worn straight, finger waved or curled. Style your retro 1920's bob with beaded or feathered headbands and pretty bobby pins for a dressier look.
  2. The 1960's Bob

  3. If your taste in retro runs a bit more recent than the 1920s, a bob, even one cut to a more modern shape and style, can easily achieve a mod 1960's look. The Vidal Sassoon bob look requires a precision cut bob, worn straight. You can create a more everyday and playful 60's look by backcombing the crown of your bob hairstyle, then adding a wide headband. Wear this retro bob with or without bangs. Part your bob in a low side part and smooth the hair back behind the ears, then backcomb the crown for an alternative to the headband when you want a retro bob look.
  4. Modern Bobs with a Retro Influence

  5. If you want a modern bob that can work for day to day living but offer retro styling options, keep your layers to a minimum. Shorter blunt bobs can easily create a 1920's look, while slightly longer bobs work for a mod hairstyle. Long, shoulder length bobs can be styled into a variety of retro hairstyles, including updos. If you are aiming for a 1940's or 1950's retro look with your bob, wear your bob a bit longer and take the time to set your hair with rollers before styling. Whatever bob you opt for, this classic style can carry off a look that is both modern and retro, making it ideal for women of all ages.
