Thinning hair, bald spots and receding hairlines aren't just a man's problem; these problems affect numerous women as well. Women who have thinning hair at the crown, or top of their heads, can camouflage the thinning area through the use of basic cuts. You may have to experiment to find the best one for you. These haircuts cover sparse areas and create the illusion of thicker hair. Consult your hairdresser, be honest about the problem and ask her opinion about which haircut would best flatter your thinning hair.

Cut hair to chin-length. For a short, classic bob, keep it blunt. Cut full, side-swept bangs. Work styling lotion through your hair from roots to tips. For a fuller look, blow hair out.

Add irregular length layers to change the cut to a short, choppy bob. This will add more texture and fullness to your hair, covering thinness at the crown of your head. Work a small amount of styling gel through hair. Scrunch and tousle and allow your hair to dry naturally or gently blow dry while scrunching to create curl and fullness.

Cut hair so it grazes the shoulders. Cut long layers that angle around the face. Apply gel or styling lotion to hair. Blow dry and scrunch for a curly look or blow out for a straighter look.

Tip

Avoid hair styles that fall below the shoulder as your hair is weighted down and can actually take on the appearance of even thinner hair. For best results, have a professional cut your hair.
