One of the best ways humans can protect giant pandas is by preserving their natural habitat. Giant pandas need to live in forests that provide them with their primary source of food--bamboo. But one of the problems with the bear's food source is that bamboo dies after it flowers, leaving nothing for the pandas to eat. Therefore, pandas need to constantly migrate to find new patches of bamboo. But as people continue to develop more land, it is becoming more and more challenging for the bear to find food to survive.

In addition, "bamboo corridors", or strips of land, have been created so that the bears can roam freely from one area to the other. While this may not be the ideal habitat for the pandas, it ensures that the giant panda will never become completely extinct. This is very important, especially as smaller populations in the wild are at a greater risk of inbreeding. According to the World Wildlife Fund in China, inbreeding can lead to serious genetic problems within the species such as reduced resistance to disease, less adaptability to environmental changes and reproductive problems. However, in a zoo, the panda can mate in a safe and controlled environment under the supervision of trained zoologists.

For example, the World Wildlife Fund works to increase the habitat area for the giant panda and create more bamboo corridors for the pandas.
