You'll be amazed by the options for tile patterns. For the simplest look, create a pattern in one color---either herringbone or straight-course (consisting of plain squares). Other choices that work well in one color are hexagons, diagonals and brickwork.
These patterns will work in more than one color, too. If you're going for a multicolor look, also think about a hopscotch or pinwheel pattern. - Borders are a great way to enhance a plain tiled look. Use a strip of hand-painted tiles to pop out as a focal point. Designs include everything from fish to fruit and French-country floral themes.
- You'll also find a wide field of more decorative choices, which can be used on entire walls or as accents to dress up the bathroom. You can stick with a traditional look for bathrooms that often includes leaves and flowers, or you can use these tiles to reflect your interests or hobbies. Consider modern textured Japanese designs; nature tiles with rustic images of cabins, bears and lakes; and garden themes with tiled images such as watering cans, trowels, juniper and dogwood.
