If you do a lot of frying, consider buying a deep fryer. They take the mess out of frying food. Your food will cook evenly and the oil is contained inside of the deep fryer, lessening the possibility of splashing or spilling. After a couple of frying sessions or after you cook a particular food such as fish, you will need to clean your deep fryer and replace the oil with fresh oil, but it's not difficult to clean.

    Empty the Contents

  1. Before cleaning, allow the fryer to completely cool down. When cool, you can remove the inside container that holds the oil. Most deep fryers are made so you can remove the metal container that holds the oil for easier cleaning. Empty the used oil into a plastic container and place it inside of a trash can. Don't empty the oil into just a plastic bag or it might leak. Use a paper towel to wipe away any residue inside the container.
  2. Start Cleaning the Inside

  3. Place the basket that holds the food into a sink filled with hot, soapy water. If food is stuck onto the metal webs, allow the basket to soak for about 15 minutes to soften it up. Use a nylon scrubber to clean the basket. If food is still sticking to it, allow it to soak for a few more minutes. Fill the metal container half way with warm soapy water. Be careful not to get the heating element on the bottom of the container wet. Most deep fryer oil containers will be made of a non-stick surface so the oil and food residues will be easy to clean off. Use a cloth or nylon scrubber and clean the inside of the unit. Allow the basket and container to dry.
  4. Clean the Outside of the Deep Fryer

  5. When cooking with oil, some oil may get on the outside of the fryer. Wet your cloth in warm, soapy water and wipe the outside of the deep fryer off to remove any remaining food or oil. Be sure to wipe the inside portion of the lid area so the cooking oil doesn't get cooked onto the fryer and become difficult to remove. Do not put the deep frying unit into a sink of water to clean it as you can damage the heating elements. Dry the deep fryer when it's washed. You should wipe the outside of the deep fryer after every use.
  6. Clean the Filter

  7. After you've used your deep fryer several times, the filter may become dirty with oil residue. Unsnap the area holding it in place on the lid, and remove it. If you don't have a new filter to replace it, wash the old filter. You can either spray the filter with a special filter cleaner, or wash the filter in a sink of hot, soapy water. It might not be as clean as a new filter, but you'll remove most of the grease and it will work better.
