A scrapbook for mom.

Life has a way of flashing before your eyes; one moment you're a child, and the next you have children of your own. The memories created throughout a lifetime are most often captured in photos, reviving moments you might otherwise have forgotten. One of the most special gifts you can give your mother is a scrapbook full of these memories. Although there is no right or wrong way to create this gift, if you are new to this process, you may need a few ideas to help get you started.

  1. Family Tree

    • A good way to begin the scrapbook for your mom is to create a family tree. You can go back as far as you wish, although the further you date back, the more research it will require. You can create a family tree with branches on both your mother's and father's sides of the family or a family tree made simply from your mother's side of the family. Be sure to make it as current as possible, including grandchildren if there are any.

    Photos

    • If you have access to early photos of your mother as a child with her own parents and siblings, including them is a terrific way of beginning your photo collage. You will also want to include photos from special events or holidays, photos capturing the special moments between you and your mom, and photos that capture the essence of your mother's heart; these can include the first time she held your child in the hospital or a photo of your mom holding you for the first time after giving birth to you.

    Personalize the Photos

    • This can be done by writing something under each photo about your mom in that moment. These can include a description of your mother's career, detailing her personality and any hobbies or special achievements she has. When doing this, take a moment to look at the photo, allowing the feelings and memories it evokes be your driving force.

    The Finishing Touch

    • A heartfelt way to end the scrapbook is by adding a poem or song about your mother, something that describes what she means to you and how she has impacted your life. Although not everyone is capable of prose, you can find a song or poem that encompasses how you feel, something your mom will feel every time she reads it.
