At Home Acne Blemish Cures

Acne blemishes are embarrassing and can make someone afraid to leave the house in fear of being seen. Fortunately, there are a few inexpensive treatments that can be done at home. These procedures will heal a blemish within a few days and get your skin back to the fresh, healthy look it is meant to have.

    1. Mint Leaves

      • Mint leaves contain menthol, which works as an anti-inflammatory. While peppermint is the strongest form, spearmint leaves also work well. You can purchase these leaves in the fresh herb and vegetable section of any grocery store or consider growing your own supply as these leaves require little maintenance and grow in nearly any climate.

To use: Crush three to four leaves using a mortar and pestle set, or any other kitchen utensil that will crush the leaves into a juicy paste, like the rounded side of a spoon. Rub the mint juice and leaves directly onto the blemish, and let dry for five to ten minutes. Rinse face with cool water and repeat as often as you like, to reduce inflammation and pain.

      Oatmeal

      • Oatmeal also cures acne blemishes quickly. Oatmeal is used in many facial masks and face scrubs and is successful because it naturally exfoliates the skin and absorbs oil in the pores that lead to blemishes. While dry, uncooked oatmeal can be rubbed over a wet face to exfoliate on a daily basis, it is best to turn it into a paste when a blemish already exists. Cook a cup of oatmeal as the package directions suggest, and add two spoonfuls of honey, which will hold the oatmeal together. Rub this mixture over the face and let sit for ten to fifteen minutes, until it starts to dry. This will reduce inflammation immediately and have the blemish cured within a few days.

      Aloe Vera

      • Gel from the aloe vera plant has long been used to cool and sooth scrapes, burns and blemishes. This works as a natural antibiotic, which heals the skin while killing bacteria that cause acne. This also works as an anti-inflammatory, reducing swelling often associated with acne blemishes. Aloe vera gel can be purchased over the counter at any drug store or the plant leaves can be purchased fresh at most grocery stores. If using a fresh leaf, cut it open and allow the yellow latex fluid to drain (the fluid may irritate some acne blemishes). Cut open the thick skin and you will find a strip of aloe vera gel. Rub this directly onto the blemish and let sit for 30 minutes. Leftover gel can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. After a few days of use, the acne blemish will be gone.
