- Braiding ponytails can add interest to a classic kid's style. Braided ponytails and pigtails are perfect for hot days when your daughter wants her hair off of her neck while she is actively playing outside. The look is achieved by braiding a ponytail or pigtail already in place and securing with a hair band, barrette or bobby pin. This is a simple style that your daughter might even learn to do herself.
- French braids are quite elegant and can be dressed up for a formal occasion or worn casually for a regular school day. Begin by pulling three sections of hair from the top of the head, near the hairline. Braid the hair, pulling hair from each side to join the braid as you work your way towards the nape of the neck, securing with bobby pins, barrettes or hair elastics. With her french braid in place, your daughter could be ready for a hot summer day filled with playing followed by an evening at a nice restaurant. The next day, she can undo the braid and enjoy the waves and body it left in her hair.

Cornrows are very small french braids created over the entire head. Many people get cornrows while on vacation in the Caribbean or at the beginning of the long, hot summer months when there isn't much time for fixing hair.
To create the style, comb hair into sections or rows and fasten each row with a bobby pin or hair clip. Run some hair wax through each section and french braid it from the front hairline to the nape of the neck, securing each braid as you complete it. The cornrows will be good for a few weeks, until the hair roots grow enough that the braids become loose. Be sure that your child wears a scarf on her head at night to keep the braids in place and protect them from becoming frizzy and dried out. - Micro braids are similar to cornrows in that they are tiny braids. Instead of being French braided to the head, though, micro braids are braided on hair that flows loosely on the head. Doing a whole head of micro braids is labor intensive, but a few micro braids scattered throughout the head can provide texture and interest to straight hair. Simply gather 1/4-inch sections of hair and braid them, securing with a bead or clear hair band. If your daughter wants a head full of micro braids, be prepared to pay a couple hundred dollars and let her know that it will likely take her stylist 6-10 hours to braid her entire head.
