Low Carb & Low-Fat Diet

Eating a low-carb, low-fat diet is an effective way to lose weight and manage unwanted fat development. Eating a low-carb diet on a long-term basis is not considered a healthy dieting lifestyle. A low-carb, low-fat diet on the other hand is believed to have great health and weight loss benefits. Low-carb diets tend to be filled with a lot of meat products and high protein foods making it easy to lose weight and build muscle.

    1. Eat More Fiber

      • A low-carb, low-fat diet should be supplemented with high fiber foods or in a pill form. Every gram of dietary fiber cancels out one gram of carbs in any food. For example if you eat a whole grain tortilla that has 24 g of carbs and 12 g of fiber, the net carbs counted is only 12 g. Incorporating fiber in a low-carb diet will also help to maintain proper digestion. Without enough fiber in the diet, the digestive tract can get congested and end in constipation. High fiber foods are typically low in fat naturally as well. The more fiber, the fewer carbs acquired by the body. Eating fiber also provides you with more food options. Instead of eating primarily dairy and meat products, an individual can explore other food options in the bread category such as whole grain pasts, sandwich breads and pastries typically not encouraged by low-carb diets.

Eat Lean Meat and Low-Fat Dairy

      • Lean meat is very high in protein and does not contain any carbs and is low in fat. Some good ideas are turkey bacon, lean chicken breast and lean beef. Purchase low-fat dairy products to minimize the amount of fat ingested but keep in mind that low-fat dairy products are usually higher in carbs. Be cautious of any added sugar in dairy products especially in yogurt and cream cheeses. Sugar is a carb so it needs to be avoided at all costs. Lean meat and high fat dairy products will provide you with the most substance with the least carb count.

      Limit Fruits and Vegtables

      • Although fruits and vegetables are the best food for your health, they tend to rank pretty high in carbs so for how ever long you're on the diet, avoid them except in small quantities. Some vegetables yield fewer carbs like sprouts, greens, mushrooms and many others. These can be used sparingly but shouldn't be eaten in excess. Fruit juice should be avoided all together.
