A spiky hairstyle is one of the most versatile cut's available to men. It doesn't matter if you're a punk or a jock, a preppy or emo, a spiky style works for every guy. The general rule is to keep your hair at a medium length, at least 2 inches long. You're also going to need hair product, so make sure to stock up on gel or pomade if you plan on getting a spiky style.

    Punk Style

  1. Before styling, make sure your hair is the same length on every part of your head. If you want thick spikes that stick straight out, use a thick hair product like Murray's pomade. To create punk spikes, grab a handful of hair and twist with one hand while applying the pomade upward. Repeat this process until your hair consists entirely of thick, punky spikes.
  2. Messy Style

  3. For the messy spike, all of your hair should be staggered to slightly different lengths (it should be a randomly chopped in various areas). Put pomade or gel all over your hair and tussle it. If everything is sticking out, you get a bedhead look. If you let the sides fall flat (or if they're cut shorter), it will be a perfect look for a preppy or jock.
  4. Modern Style

  5. The modern style requires that some areas of your hair be longer than other areas, resulting in an asymmetrical look. But instead of matting your hair down with gel or combing it to the side, push all of your hairs upward and outward. Give your hair an artsy touch by dyeing it a completely different color or adding vibrant streaks.
