Facial massage is an enjoyable way to provide a quick feeling of rejuvenation. Because it doesn’t require any special oils or equipment, you can give yourself a simple facial massage at any time. Perform these techniques when you need a moment of relaxation, like between meetings at work or after a stressful moment at home.
Quickly run your fingers over your face as if you were playing the piano, moving them from the top of your forehead to the tip of your chin. This light and gentle tapping brings blood to the surface and stimulates the nervous system. Be sure your eyes are closed so you don’t poke them.
Under Eye Swoops
Start by putting your index and your middle finger of each hand on both sides of your nose. Quickly perform a sweeping motion that moves out toward your ears. When your fingers fall off your face, place them back by the side of your nose, and repeat. This brings energy to the under eye area.
You’ve likely given yourself a temple massage when you’ve had a headache, but this simple technique can decrease stress even if your head isn’t hurting. Place your index finger and middle finger firmly on your temple, and make small circular motions. You can perform temple massage for as short or long a time as you’d like.
Using your thumb and the side of your index finger, gently pinch your chin. Using both hands, pinch along the jawbone, moving slowly toward the ears. This pinching brings blood to the area and relaxes the muscles of the chin area.
Form a "V" with your index finger and middle finger. Place the index finger behind the ear and rest the middle finger on the skin in front of the ear. Press firmly while you move the "V" up and down. This motion relaxes the skin underneath the ear, which can become tight. You can also gently pinch and pull your ears and ear lobe for a soothing sensation.
