When a large mass of crystals forms inside the kidney, it is referred to as a kidney stone. Kidney stones can be extremely uncomfortable and may cause symptoms such as pain in the abdomen, vomiting and nausea. Other symptoms of a kidney stone include abnormal-colored urine, chills, fever and blood in the urine. Many people have difficulty dealing with the nausea associated with kidney stones and are looking for alternative and home remedies to treat the symptoms.

The Goal of Treatment

The main goal of kidney stone treatment is to relieve the symptoms. Everyone tends to experience kidney stone symptoms differently. Smaller kidney stones typically pass through the system on their own. People who have more severe symptoms may need to be hospitalized. Usually, once the stone has passed, the urine is saved and strained so the stone can be tested to determine the cause. Patients are usually directed to drink at least six to eight glasses of water a day in order to produce a good amount of urine.

Ginger

Ginger is an excellent treatment for stomach ailments and an effective alternative remedy for nausea associated with kidney stones. Ginger is available in tea or powder form and is usually found in the kitchen. Ginger is also available as a crystalized candy and can be eaten whenever nausea occurs. Ginger works for settling the stomach because it helps the stomach produce more mucus, which aids with digestion

Teas

Many teas are good for decreasing nausea associated with kidney stones, such as mint tea or plain black tea. Avoid adding a lot of sugar to the tea, as this can sometimes make nausea worse. The best teas for settling a nauseous stomach are peppermint, chamomile, ginger and black tea. People who aren't tea drinkers may suck on a small piece of peppermint candy. Hard candy works best.
