- Many venues provide arches or have arches already set where the ceremony will take place. You can decorate the arch with flowers that match your wedding colors or flowers that you particularly like. Depending on the type of arch you have to work with, you may have to string the flowers together and then place them over the arch and attach, or you might be able to poke the flowers through holes and tie them on in bunches. Baby's breath can be used as filler around the larger flowers to create a full and beautiful look.
- Make an arch out of balloons. Balloons come in all sorts of shapes, colors and designs. You can design an arch with several different kinds of balloons or simply regular balloons in various colors. The balloons are tied to strings and wired together to form long chains. You can have a double balloon arch with two sets of arches, a twisted or braided arch in which two or more strings of balloons are twisted together.
- An arch carved out of wood is stunning and can be customized with detailed carvings or designs. The carved arch can be used for the special day and then be installed in the couple's backyard as a gazebo type setting or even a swing. Oak and redwood are popular because of their strength and appearance.
- Tulle is perfect for indoor wedding ceremonies where there's a ceiling. Hang tulle or fabric from the ceiling and drape it down into an arch. Use ribbons to tie the sides together to create shape and give the fabric a "curtain like" look.
- A simple bare arch made of rod iron is beautiful and works perfectly for an outdoor setting in a forest or field area. A few embellishments such as a couple bows can be added, but they aren't necessary. The arch can be a standard upside down "U" shape or a boxier look, depending upon your personal style and taste.
- Create a living arch out of plants, vines or trees. Depending on the location, you may be able to use the foliage around you. If not, use two large trees with flexible leaves and branches. Plant the trees or plants in stylish pots or urns, set six feet apart. Take the trees or plants and gently bend their tops and leaves inward. Use ribbon or string to tie the trees together so they form an arch. It's natural and lovely, perfect for a garden or forest wedding.
