Microsoft PowerPoint XP is used to create, display and share presentations or slides. You can use inbuilt designs, layouts and backgrounds that come with Microsoft PowerPoint XP quickly or use your own. Color schemes and animation schemes can be applied to one or all slides. Not only can you add animation effects to your slides and customize them, but you can also utilize the spellchecker and language tools as well.

    Microsoft Powerpoint XP Tutorial

  1. If you're new to Microsoft PowerPoint XP, start with the Help tools, where you'll find information on connecting to Microsoft Office Online, table of contents, training and what's new in PowerPoint.

To create a Microsoft PowerPoint XP presentation, you can begin with a blank presentation, design template, existing presentation or let the AutoContent Wizard apply a design for you.

The AutoContent Wizard walks you through each step of the creation, letting you select the type of presentation you want. You can choose your presentation output: on-screen, web, black and white overheads, color overheads or 35mm slides. Once your design loads, follow the "Outline/Slides" pane on the left. You can update the information on your slide by clicking on the outline or side thumbnail and highlighting the text you want to change.
  2. Using Tools

  3. PowerPoint XP lets you add, duplicate and delete your slides. To insert or duplicate a slide, click on the "Slides" pane and select "Insert, New Slide" or "Insert, Duplicate Slide." To delete a slide, select the slide thumbnail and hit the "Delete" key.

You can add layouts to a slide by selecting the "Slide Layout" from the task pane and clicking on the layout you want to apply. You'll find "Content Layouts," "Text and Content Layouts" and other layouts. Click the text within your layout to add new text or double-click the clip art, chart or media clip to change it.

To apply a color scheme to Microsoft PowerPoint, select "Slide Design, Color Schemes" from the task pane and select the color scheme you'll like to use. You can edit your color scheme by selecting the "Edit Color Schemes" link from the bottom of your task pane and choosing the colors of each element on your slide.

You can apply animations to your slide by selecting "Slide Design, Animation Schemes" from the task pane and clicking on the animation you want to apply. To apply the animation to all slides, click on the "Apply to All Slides" button on the bottom of the task pane. To apply animations to specific elements of your slide, select "Custom Animation" from the task pane and choose the elements you want animated.
  4. Viewing and Saving

  5. You can view and save presentations at any time. To view your slide show, select "View, Slide Show" from the toolbar. To save your file, select "File, Save As," name your file and click "OK." Your PowerPoint will be saved as a ".ppt" file.
