Acne can appear anywhere on the body, including the face, neck, chest and back. While treating facial acne can be done fairly easily, treating body acne can sometimes be tricky due to the difficulty reaching the effected areas. This can be overcome using a few home remedies for treating body acne.
Cleansing the Body
Cleansing the body in order to treat body acne can be tricky, but this can be remedied by using a back scratcher with a small cotton washcloth attached to it. You can attach the washcloth to the back scratcher with a rubber band or hair tie. Lather the washcloth with a gentle soap designed for sensitive skin types, and gently wash the areas of the body effected by acne. Lather the body and rinse, trying to avoid rubbing or scrubbing too hard. Aggressive scrubbing can exacerbate skin eruptions and make clearing the skin more difficult. When washing the body, make sure to do it lightly and quickly. There is no need to spend more time than needed trying to scrub off dirt or impurities. A light lathering will do.
Treating the Body
The body can be treated in a similar way that it is cleansed. Use a fresh washcloth attached to the back scratcher to apply a tea tree oil salve to the skin affected by acne. Tea tree oil salve can be purchased at health food stores or online, and is a healing ointment infused with acne-fighting tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide creams, but without the harsh and uncomfortable side effects, like redness, itchiness, peeling or burning. Apply a quarter-sized amount to the washcloth and gently spread it onto the affected body areas after washing.
Using a Mask
Once per week it is helpful and beneficial to apply a skin-soothing and acne-fighting mask to the body. Oatmeal has been used for centuries to soothe irritated and inflamed skin, and can be used on acne-prone skin to reduce inflammation and redness. To make an oatmeal mask for the body, combine 1 cup of plain rolled oats with 2 cups of boiling water. Wait until the oats cool completely, then apply them to the body using the back scratcher and a washcloth. Let the oatmeal sit on the skin for at least 10 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water. You can use an oatmeal mask once a week to help soothe body acne and prevent irritation.
