Ingrown hairs, or razor bumps, are caused when the hair is partially cut off and starts to grown back into the skin. These bumps can be painful and ugly. There are two types of home remedies for ingrown facial hairs: prevention and removal. The best remedy for ingrown facial hair is to avoid them all together and to find better options for hair removal. In the case that ingrown hairs are experienced, there are some remedies that you can do at home to get rid of them.

    Prevention Home Remedies

  1. Prevention is always the best policy. One home remedy for ingrown facial hairs is to thoroughly exfoliate the skin before and after shaving. Use a loofah and a facial scrub to wash away dead skin cells. This opens the pores and loosens up the facial hairs to make them easier to be removed. Exfoliation also removes excess dirt from around the follicles.

To properly exfoliate, do this in a hot shower. The steam from the shower softens the hairs and opens the pores to release some toxins from the body. Wet a face towel with the hot water and ring out excess water. Place the towel over the face and hold it there until the towel starts to warm up. Take the facial scrub and work it into the face with the fingertips. Massage the scrub into the face using a circular motion. Before rinsing off the scrub, do the same circular technique with the loofah. Rinse completely off. Towel dry the face before shaving.
After you shave, use witch hazel on the face to further prevent ingrown hairs. Witch hazel is a natural toner and clean debris from the pores. Apply a little witch hazel to a cotton ball an rub it all over the freshly-shaven areas of the face.
  2. Home Remedies for Ingrown Hairs

  3. Ingrown hairs are not only unattractive, they also causes pain and itchiness. To relieve yourself of these symptoms, try this home remedy. Puree half of a large cucumber with the skin still attached. Add 1/3 cup of milk to the puree. Place the mixture in the refrigerator for a few minutes until it is cold. Dip a towel or gauze into the mixture, making sure to completely soak it through. Hold the mixture-covered cloth to the irritated ingrown hairs for a few minutes. This will relieve the pain and itchiness until you are able to get rid of the ingrown hairs.

To get rid of the ingrown hairs, you must wait a few days until the hairs starts to stick out a bit. Soften the skin by holding a hot towel to it for a few minutes. Disinfect the area with peroxide. Take some tweezers and pluck out the ingrown hairs. To better see them for plucking, use a magnifying mirror while standing in direct sunlight. Clean and disinfect the face after tweezing. If the hairs aren't present, don't pick the face too much to avoid scarring.
