Creme de Tequila, also known as crema de tequila or tequila cream, is a popular soft liqueur that blends the sharpness of tequila with the smooth textures of cream, coffee and fruit. It lends itself well to martinis and smooth cocktails as well as potent, buttery shooters. If you enjoy cocktails with a rich, creamy finish but prefer not to use real cream, Creme de Tequila deserves a place in your drinks cabinet. The two most popular varieties of tequila cream are 1921 brand Tequila Cream and Tequila Rose, but you might also find strawberry, cocoa and other flavored versions that are ideal for creative cocktail-making.

Chocolate Martini

To make a chocolate martini, you will need 1921 Tequila Cream, vanilla vodka, half-and-half (substitute milk, whether dairy, soy or nut, for a lighter version) and chocolate syrup. Begin by adding ice and water to an empty cocktail glass to allow it to chill. Add a handful of ice cubes, 2 1/2 shots of 1921 Tequila Cream, 1 shot of vanilla vodka, 1 1/2 shots of half-and-half and a quarter shot of chocolate syrup to a shaker and cap. Shake the mixture and empty the chilling water from the cocktail glass. Strain the mixture into the cocktail glass and top by swirling additional chocolate syrup lightly over the top of the drink.

Sombrero Revolucionario

To mix a sombrero revolucionario, you will need 1921 Tequila Cream, Tequila Reposado, evaporated milk, Kalhua coffee liquor, vanilla extract and fresh cinnamon sticks. Light coconut milk is a good alternative to the evaporated milk if you want something a little lighter on calories. Begin by adding a handful of ice to a blender as well as 1 1/2 oz. Tequila Reposado, 3 oz. 1921 Tequila Cream, 1 oz. evaporated milk, 1/2 oz. Kalhua Coffee liquor, 3 drops of vanilla extract and a pinch of ground cinnamon. Blend for about 10 seconds and pour the mixture into a tall wine glass. Garnish with additional ground cinnamon and decorate with a whole cinnamon stick.

Peppermint Rose

This popular alcoholic shot uses equal parts peppermint schnapps and Tequila Rose Strawberry cream liqueur. To make the shots, first determine the number of shooters you need. If you have an even number, measure out ingredients into even shots: for instance, if you need six shots of peppermint rose, pour out three shots of peppermint schnapps and three shots of Tequila Rose Strawberry cream liqueur. If you have an odd number, pour out even shots until you reach the last shot and simply pour half of each ingredient into that shot. (For five shots, for example, pour two shots of schnapps and two of cream plus a final shot with half an ounce of both.) Pour the shots into a shaker with ice, shake and then pour into the proper number of shot glasses.

Java Colada

This colada drink is flavored with Tequila Rose brand tequila cream. To make it, you will need Tequila Rose Java tequila cream and pina colada mix. If you prefer homemade mixers, use coconut milk and pineapple juice instead. Place 1 1/2 cups of ice into a blender and add 2 oz. Tequila Rose Java and 4 oz. pina colada mixer. Blend into a smooth texture, making sure that large chunks of ice have been crushed smooth. Pour into a large wine or daiquiri glass (bar glass used for daiquiris and coladas), garnish with pineapple or lime and serve.
