Traditionally, a 50th wedding anniversary is celebrated with a gift of gold. Fifty years of marriage is truly as precious as gold, so a gift of this nature is very appropriate. Although the idea of giving gold to someone celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary is traditional, it doesn't mean the gift you give must be gold. Fortunately, there are many other 50th wedding anniversary gifts one can give in honor of this cherished occasion.

    Gifts of Gold

  1. If you've decided to give the anniversary girl something made of gold, consider a gold necklace, earrings or an elegant watch. Diamonds look stunning set in gold, making a tennis bracelet an excellent 50th anniversary gift. Something gold for the happily married couple is a set of gold-trimmed cups and saucers or a beautiful gold picture frame. An inexpensive gift of gold could be a pair of gold-trimmed anniversary mugs.
  2. Gifts of Glass

  3. A fine crystal bowl is a 50th anniversary gift any married couple would love to receive. Another idea is a set of anniversary champagne glasses with the number 50 inscribed on them, or a clear glass paperweight with encased wedding symbols. Would the blessed couple like something to put fresh-cut flowers in? If so, a crystal vase would make a welcome gift. A glass tea-light candle holder is another great gift idea. Figurines and trinket boxes are other gift ideas. You can also give an anniversary plate inscribed with endearing, personalized words from you.
  4. Other 50th Anniversary Gifts

  5. Other anniversary gifts that can be given for a 50th anniversary are decorative pillows wishing the couple a happy anniversary, a sculpture or a framed keepsake. The gift of a poem placed inside a frame that plays a love song is another idea. A personalized afghan is one gift to consider, as is a wedding clock or a jewelry box. Gourmet gift baskets that are stuffed with champagne and other treats such as candy and cookies also make a nice gift. If you think a gift basket is a little too much, buy them an expensive bottle of champagne. More ideas include a 50th wedding anniversary photo album, a candy dish or flowers. A gift certificate for dinner for two is another idea. If money is no object and the anniversary couple is related to you, you may want to send them on an all-expenses-paid mini-vacation.
