- There may not always be enough storage space for your food, especially if you have a big family or you buy items in bulk. Store these extra items in the old refrigerator. Just as with a regular fridge, you can remove the shelves or adjust them to make room for all your items.
- If you're a gardener, you know how messy garden supplies can get if you do not keep them organized. The dirt can go all over or dry out, spider webs build up on the pots and any plastic pots can crack and break. Put the fridge on its back or side so you can store the gardening materials where they will not get broken or damaged. The lid will protect the items from animals and the elements.
- If you live in an area where there are animals, such as raccoons, that dig through your trash, putting your garbage into the old refrigerator can keep it out of reach. Store the fridge on your porch or in your yard and, before tossing the bags in, make sure they are tightly tied. Getting into a fridge is much more difficult then trying to get into a garbage can. If you want extra security, put a chain lock around it. On garbage days, you can remove the garbage and put it into your regular trashcan.
- Many people have a variety of beverages in their home, including alcohol, water bottles and soda. Instead of having them take up space in the working fridge or in your pantry space, use the old refrigerator to store all of these items. The shelves in the main body of the fridge and on the door will help keep them organized.
- Lay your old refrigerator on its back and use the shelves to create three even sections. Take all the drawers out as well. The three sections can be used to sort your dirty laundry. You can use the empty spaces where the drawers were for the detergent bottles, fabric softener and any other items you use during laundry.
