Herpes conjunctivitis is a virus which is found in cats. In normally effects the eye area so that it is hard to open and the eye is constantly appearing as if it is watering. It is essentially pink eye, except on the inside of the eyelids. Luckily there are several ways you can go about treating this problem on your cat.

    Oral medication

  1. The easiest way to actually get the medication into the cats is have them ingest medication. This can be done typically by mixing it into their food. The oral interferon can help break down the build up of herpes conjunctivitis tissues. This medication has not yet been proven to be a sufficient way to combat the problem, but this is just due to lack of test funding. However, there are no side effects and the process is inexpensive, so it is worth a try.
  2. Topical products

  3. There are several topical products you can use to help cure the herpes conjunctivitis. Topical means the medication is place onto the infected area. Some topical medications are anti-viral, such as Herplex, Viroptic and Vira-A. However, due be warned that this these medications tend to be pricey, especially for those individuals who do not have pet insurance. Place the topical anti-viral product onto the infected area five times a day
  4. Vaccination

  5. If neither the topical or oral medications have worked, you may want to try out a vaccination. The vaccination for the herpes will hep produce stimulants which pump up the immune system, which in turn will help fight the infection. However, this is for of treatment does not always work, because the vaccination is usually used more for prevention, rather than a cure. However, if the other two methods have not worked, using the vaccination may be your best bet.
