Destination Wedding Hairstyles

For couples who want to get married without a lot of fuss and in a location that is naturally beautiful, destination weddings are the way to go. That being said, as the bride, you might have some concerns about finding the perfect hairstyle for your destination wedding. Don't fret, the good news about destination weddings is that they are less formal and your hairstyle can be much more natural.

Updos

Most destination weddings are someplace tropical, where your hair will be exposed to humidity. If you want to avoid the frizz affect that humidity sometimes adds to hair, opt for an updo. You can pull this off with a simple ponytail that will still look elegant.

Start by parting your hair, either to the side or down the middle. Sweep the hair into a low ponytail. Secure with a rubber band. Take a chunk of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around the rubber band until it is covered. Secure underneath with a bobby pin. For a soft, romantic look use a curling iron and curl just the ends. You can follow these instructions for a romantic side ponytail too; just pull your hair into a side ponytail to begin with.

Down Styles

If you want to wear your hair down for your special day, you can choose to go either straight or curly. If you have naturally curly hair and you are in a humid destination, a curly style will be the best. Start by blow drying hair and round brushing the ends under. When hair is completely dry, take a large curling iron and curl separate sections at a time into big, loose curls. When all of your hair is curled, finger through your curls and finish with a light-hold hairspray.

For a straight look, blow dry your hair. Once your hair is completely dry, use a straightening iron and iron hair straight by sections. To finish your look, when your hair is straight, use a light-hold hair spray to prevent flyaways.

For either curly or straight styles, you can choose to pull one side or both sides back and secure them with a bobby pin to keep hair out of your face.

Additional Tips

Get your hair cut and colored a week before your wedding. Take advantage of this time with your hairdresser and explain the hairstyle that you want to do. Ask your hairstylist what products she recommends that you use for your big day.

Practice doing your hairstyle before your big day. You can practice before you leave, but to get the best test run, practice once you arrive to see how your hairstyle will react with the weather and what you need to do differently on your big day.
