TurboTax is a tax software for those who want to forgo an accountant and complete their own tax returns each tax year. The simple interface makes entering information regarding your yearly income and deduction a straightforward process. But before you can use TurboTax, you must get the software on your computer, and there are some known issues you may need to overcome to install TurboTax.

    Error Installing

  1. Error 1334 is a general installation error. When this error occurs, there will be a message that says, "ApplicationController: MSI Install Exception occurred: MS installer error 1334." To fix this error, TurboTax must be forcefully uninstalled from your system and then reinstalled. To uninstall the program, place the CD into the drive of your computer and go to "Run" under the "Start" menu. On Windows Vista, you must go to "All Programs," then "Accessories," then "Run." Click "Browse" in the "Run" window and choose "Setup.exe." Type a space and "/u /l" after the last "e" in "Setup.exe" in the "Open" field of the "Run" window. Click "OK" or "Ctrl+Shift+Enter" in Vista to open the "Repair/Uninstall" Turbo Tax window. Click on the "Uninstall TurboTax" button. This will forcefully uninstall the program. Once uninstalled, open the TurboTax CD drive and reinstall the program according to the manufacturer's directions included with the software.
  2. Windows Installer Not Accessible

  3. When installing TurboTax on a Windows system, you may get a "Windows Installer Not Accessible" message. If you get this message, the Windows Installer on your system is either turned off or may have corrupted files. To fix the problem, go to the "Task Manager" on your computer, which can be accessed by pressing "Ctrl+Alt+Delete." Go to the "Processes" tab and look for "msiexec.exe." When you find the process, click on it and press the "End Process" button. Close the "Task Manager" and go to your computer's "Control Panel" under the "Start" menu. Go to "Administrative Tools" and then to "Services" and scroll down to the "Windows Installer." Make sure that the startup type listed next to the installer is "Manual" and the service status is "Stopped." These are the correct settings needed for a manual install. If these settings are correct, proceed with installing TurboTax as normal.
  4. Fatal Error

  5. Fatal error 1603 is another Windows Installer error that plagues TurboTax software installations. The error is caused by the anti-virus software, firewall or backup program on a computer. The problem can be overcome by logging into the system as an administrator, which overrides the anti-virus or firewall features and allows you to install the software. Not having space available for TurboTax on your hard drive can also cause this type of fatal error. Deleting items on your hard drive to free up space can fix the problem.
