Camp Counselor
-
Becoming a camp counselor is a popular choice for teens who like sports. There are tons of regular camps and sports camps that are always looking to hire people who have a passion and experience in the athletic arena. These jobs can be found at regular day camps and at those that are devoted specifically to sports.
Sport camps are great for teens who are interested in a specific sport such as baseball, cheerleading, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball or wrestling. Camps that specialize in a particular sport tend to have various types of positions available; these may involve coaching, instructing, assisting with plays and strategies, teaching the game fundamentals and more. It's worth noting that in general camps (not sport-specific), sports usually make up large parts of the campers' daily activities.
After-School Programs and Clubs
-
Most towns have organizations and clubs (run by the school, town, or independently) that offer after-school recreational activities and sports. Places such as The Boys and Girls Club often have sports teams or related activities for kids to participate in. You can contact these programs to see if they're looking for coaches, instructors, equipment room managers, referees or other game day facilitators.
It's also worth contacting other schools (even colleges) in your area because they often need someone to help with rosters; equipment; field, court and locker room maintenance; ticket sales; and even snack stands. Some of these jobs may not allow you to take part in the sport, but you'll gain great experience and are likely to learn a thing or two.
