Alternative Medicine Cures for Acne

Acne medicines can hurt. Whether you use the topical stinging astringents or the intense and side effect-heavy prescriptions like Accutane, most acne medications you have taken were probably associated with pain. Healing the acne internally with vitamins, herbs and homeopathic remedies may be the least painful and the healthiest way to improve your complexion, according to Florida dermatologist Dr. Dean Goodless. Consult your physician or dermatologist before trying new supplements.

    Vitamins and Herbs for Acne

  1. Vitamin A, which can be found in fish oils, liver, dairy products, green vegetables and yams, has been connected to skin health. Vitamin B2 reduces the stress that may contribute to acne. You can take it in supplement form or find it in whole grains, fish, milk, leafy green vegetables and eggs. Vitamin B3 improves the circulation which can help transport out the bacteria from acne much more quickly. Vitamin B3 is in peanuts, avocados, liver and lean meats. Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant which allows it to protect your cells against free radicals. Add the vitamin to your diet by eating almonds, sunflower seeds, broccoli, vegetable oils and wheat germ. Zinc, which is a mineral found in eggs, nuts, whole grains and mushrooms, can boost your immune system and protect against acne. Essential fatty acids like those in flaxseed and evening primrose oil can help to dilute oily sebum, which will reduce the chances of clogged pores.
  2. Homeopathic Remedies for Acne

  3. Homeopathic remedies are linked to symptoms related to the condition (in this case, acne), your reactions to heat, cold and other conditions, along with any accompanying emotional states. Calcarea sulfurica is used on severe acne that tends to stay in one place for weeks, has yellow, creamy pus that drains for a long time and swollen glands. This remedy may be needed if you have anxiety, fear of being perceived as ugly, poor healing and if your symptoms get worse in heat or exertion. Kali bromatum is used on forehead, shoulder, back and upper face acne that includes blackheads, pimples with a depressed center and purple spots or scars. The acne in this case may be worse during menstruation and you may be overweight, have a sickly complexion and feel suspicious and morally conflicted. Pulsatilla is used most often during puberty and for young girls or pregnant women. The acne is itchy, causes a flushed skin and cracked lips. You may feel affectionate, sad, weepy and alone in crowds. Other homeopathic remedies include silicea, sulphur, and thuja. Consult with a homeopathic practitioner before choosing which medication is right for you.
  4. Lifestyle Changes

  5. To ensure that these alternative cures work, you should make a few changes in your acne-related routine. Make sure that you wash your face every day with water and soap. Though eating chocolate and oily foods does not cause acne, keep track of which foods may be your acne triggers and try to remove or limit them. Do not pick at your pimples because it causes inflammation and scars. Lastly, add more exercise and movement exercises like yoga to your daily routine, as an increase in blood flow can help to flush away toxins and provide you with more nutrients.
