RCA Programmable Remote Instructions

The great thing about RCA universal remotes is how you can program just about any television or device into the remote (such as DVD, VHS or audio players). This will allow you to use the remote to control the device, and save yourself the headache of having three different remotes, none of which, that you can remember, actually turns on the DVD player.

    Prime the Device

  1. Power on the device you want to program into the remote manually. This means pressing the actual power button on the device. Hold down the "TV" button on the RCA universal remote (if you want to control a TV) or "AUX" (if you want to control a DVD or VCR player). Make sure to press and hold down the button while aiming it at the device you want to control.
  2. Enter Your Code

  3. Continue to hold down on either the "TV" or "AUX" button. Use the keypad to type in the four digit code of the device. This can be found in the small instructions manual, which came with the remote. If you can not find the instructions there is a link in the "Resources" section (see bottom of last page) which contains the codes. Release the "TV" or "AUX" button and press the "Power" button. If the device does not respond press the "TV" or "AUX" button again, followed by "Power." If this still does not work you may need to try a different code. Many makes and brands of televisions and DVD players have multiple codes. Try each code one at a time until one of them works.
  4. Auto Detect

  5. You can try to auto detect the device you want to program into the remote. This doesn't always work, but maybe worth a shot. Manually power on the device you want to control and aim the remote at it. Press down the "TV" or "AUX" button. Now hold down the "Power" button as well. When the light on the remote stays on, you can release the buttons. Press the "Play" button. The remote will now attempt to scan the device for the available code. If the device turns off after a few seconds, the scan has worked. If not, press the "Play" button again to scan the next set of codes.
Once the device powers off, press the "Rewind" button, followed by "Stop." The device will now be programmed. You may have to perform this scan up to twenty times. If after than you sill have not connected the device to the RCA universal remote you will need to pair the devices through the manual code.
