Ideas for Spanish Wedding Table Decorations

Whether you wish to recreate your cultural roots or just want a Spanish theme for your wedding, the right table décor will set the mood at your reception. Use rich earth tones, wrought iron and exquisite clay pottery to capture the look. Borrow from Spanish design and tradition to create the perfect decorations.

Traditional Touches

  • Create centerpieces from wrought iron candle lanterns. Tradition in Spain used these lanterns to light the path between the bride and groom's homes the night before the wedding. Use these to set the mood at your reception dinner. The glow of the light through the glass will add an attractive cast to the room.

Scatter orange blossoms---a Spanish symbol of happiness---on the table or place blossoms in bud vases at each setting. Substitute silk blossoms if the real ones aren't available.

Set the tables with brightly colored Fiestaware serving bowls and dishes. Mix and match colors for a festive look or choose midnight blue for a more elegant display.

Modern Style

  • Use striking colors inspired by Spain to create your table décor. Use heavy dark pottery as vases. Arrange long stemmed deep red roses in each vase to create your centerpiece. Avoid using filler leaves and flowers---the roses need no help to make a striking statement.

Black and deep burnt orange will make a statement on your tables. Use dark wooden tables if possible, otherwise cover tables in black or deep brown tablecloths. Use dark orange plates which will pop against the dark background.

Set a punched tin votive holder by each setting. Purchase at a home décor store or make your own from miniature metal pails. Fill the pails with water and freeze solid. Punch holes in the sides with a nail and hammer. Simple star burst patterns and stripes are common themes. Place a votive inside and light.

Flamenco Inspired

  • Decorate your tables in striking teal, red and black. Tie large bows on the back of each chair in wide teal ribbon. Attach a large red artificial carnation to the center of the bow. Group red carnations in simple vases along long tables. Natural wood tables are preferred or cover the table in a crisp white cloth.

Use glass votive holders tinted a pale blue. Space along the table on both sides to add romantic light. The candle flames will reflect on the glass and dish ware pleasantly.

Spanish fans double as favors and place cards. Choose red or teal fans with black lace. Open a fan on top of each plate and center a place card on top. Attach large silk carnation to the napkin rings for an exotic presentation.
