When you are bored at home, you have several options. You can occupy yourself with something productive or you can spend the time with something frivolous and mindless. Reorganize something, start a project, read a book, play a game or cook up a delicious meal in the kitchen. There are many ways to occupy yourself when you are bored.
Tackle a reorganization project. Reorganize old photos and place them into photo albums. If you scrapbook, catch up on scrapbooking pages. Reorganize digital photographs on your computer and make a plan to get them printed to place into albums.
Reorganize a closet. Instead of tackling a whole room, start small with one closet. Empty the closet and restore order. Give away items you do not wear or use. Pare down the items in the closet so the closet is neat and everything is easy to access. Place small items in bins or boxes and label the outsides of the bins clearly with the contents inside.
Reorganize your computer files and defragment your computer if it has been running slowly. Sort through your hard drive and delete old files and programs you no longer use.
Clean out the trash and debris from your car and vacuum the interior. Wash the insides of the windows and windshield.
Catch up on magazine reading, and read mail you have been saving. Discard items as you read them or file certain items for future reference.
If you have a project that you have been meaning to start or meaning to work on, use your free time to do so. Work on a quilt, sew a piece of clothing, do some woodworking, transplant some flowers, fix a household appliance that needs attention or knit a scarf or hat.
Get busy in the kitchen with a special meal or tackle that gourmet dish you have wanted to try. Learn a new culinary skill. Bake a cake or make a fancy Italian meal. Make jam or preserve fruits or vegetables for future enjoyment.
Instead of being productive, channel your boredom into relaxation time. Read a book that has been on your reading list. Watch a movie you have wanted to see. Spend some time playing a computer game you rarely spend time playing.
Play a board game with a family member or friend. Go for a walk if the weather is pleasant. Just sit and visit with a friend on the phone or face to face. Listen to music or play an instrument, if you possess this talent.
