The Polaris pool cleaner makes it easier to clean and maintain your swimming pool, but the cleaner needs to be maintained to continue operating properly. If the Polaris pool cleaner is not cleaning your pool well, then there could be something wrong with it. Some Polaris pool cleaner troubleshooting tips can help you to pinpoint the problem.

Cleaner is Not Moving With Insufficient Water Pressure

  1. If your Polaris pool cleaner fails to move, and there is not sufficient water pressure at the cleaner, check that the booster pump is working properly. Make sure the main pool filter is clean. If it is not clean, there may not be enough water flow to work the booster pump, causing the booster pump to not have enough water pressure to work the pool cleaner. See if cleaning the main filter will fix the problem.

Make sure the pump basket and skimmer basket are clean. Check that the filter screen is not clogged and is clean. If the filter screen is damaged or missing, debris could clog the tubing inside of the pool sweep. If so, take the pool cleaner apart to clear the lines. Check that the swivel and hose connections do not have water pressure leaks.
  2. Cleaner is Not Moving With Sufficient Water Pressure

  3. If your Polaris pool cleaner is not moving but there is sufficient water pressure, then one of the wheels on the cleaner may need to be replaced. After a lot of use, the wheels wear down and will not engage. The problem could also be the backup valve. If the backup valve is not working, the internal gears can break or wear down. You could also have something caught in the Polaris pool cleaner. Pool toys can get stuck in the opening or get tangled in the wheels and can cause the cleaner to stop.
  4. The Cleaner Does Not Touch the Bottom of the Pool

  5. If your Polaris pool cleaner moves so fast that it does not touch the bottom of the pool, you need to adjust the RPMs on the pressure relief valve. You can also install some restrictor disks in the wall fitting to try to reduce the water flow.
  6. The Cleaner Runs at a Tilt

  7. If your Polaris pool cleaner runs tilting to the side, it may be that the cleaner bag is full and needs to be emptied. It could also be that the head float is damaged and has filled with water. Remove the head float, and shake the water out.
  8. The Feed Hose Gets Tangled

  9. If the feed hose on your Polaris pool cleaner gets tangled, check that the hose is the correct length. It should be able to come within 6 inches of the furthest wall of the pool. If it is not the proper length, then shorten the hose or purchase a new one. Also make sure that the feed hose floats.
