Karaoke is a form of entertainment that originated in Japan. Singing karaoke puts you in the position of the lead singer, using specially made discs that contain songs without lyrics. These discs, since they are written to CD-G format, often have the lyrics to the songs embedded in the disc, and when you play a CD-G (karaoke) disc, the lyrics will appear on a monitor to help you along. There are several ways to create karaoke discs.

    Online Karaoke Websites

  1. There are quite a few websites that will custom make karaoke discs for you from songs you choose from their libraries (see Resources). Most of these websites offer flexible pay options, extensive libraries of legally licensed material and fast turnaround time, making them ideal for singers who are looking for a place to make karaoke discs on a regular basis. Some of these websites offer free songs with a set purchase amount, others offer lifetime replacement of broken discs. Making custom karaoke discs online is a convenient, versatile way to build your karaoke library.
  2. Karaoke on Your Computer

  3. With the right software, you can make karaoke discs right on your computer. There is quite a bit of karaoke software on the market (see Resources). Karaoke disc burning software is typically easy to use and offers several functions. The most important is the ability to mix lead vocals out of the track in order to create your karaoke discs. This software also embeds lyric for true karaoke playback. The most popular of the karaoke software is Power CD-G.
  4. Karaoke Disc Duplicating Machines.

  5. Purchasing a karaoke disc duplicator can be quite expensive, but if you sing karaoke for a living, such as at weddings or other events, then purchasing a karaoke machine might be a good investment. You can purchase one of these machines at some music stores or online. If you are in the market for one of these machines, determine your needs based on your budget. You may only want a machine that allows you to sing along with karaoke discs you own. In that case, you won't need to spend the extra money for a machine that will duplicate karaoke discs or even strip vocals for you. If you do this professionally, again, a high end machine that does it all will be worth the investment.
