Spirit of Norfolk Theme Party Ideas
The Spirit of Norfolk is an excursion boat that takes up to 450 guests on two-hour cruises on the Elizabeth River. Food, music and entertainment are provided for celebrations during regular cruises and chartered bookings. Private parties can reserve luncheon, dinner and night sails on the scenic Hampton Roads waterway, winding through southeastern Virginia from the Norfolk port. Themed parties create extra excitement and a festive atmosphere. Here are a few ideas to take on board and make a theme party of your own: Does this Spark an idea?

While You Were Gone
-
Celebrate the return of a loved one from overseas deployment. With many military families in the Hampton Roads region, the safe return of battle groups is cause for a party. Each guest can choose a topic or event that the honoree missed during his time away. Carry a box of Girl Scout cookies, wear a pilgrim hat or bring a gift wrapped in Christmas or Hanukkah paper. Create a collage of photos.
Mermaids
-
Norfolk is the self-proclaimed City of Mermaids and features them throughout the downtown area. Choose your favorite mermaid created by local artists from one of the dozens of sculptures on display, and dress up for a party as one of the mythical creatures. Each one has a name and is "dressed" distinctively in eye-catching colors. For a fancy outing, mimic Toga, clad in a silver and gold gown with beads in her hair, or Broadway Nights, who dons a black tuxedo and white top, complete with red bow tie and cummerbund.

Colonials
-
Celebrate Norfolk's history, steeped in British ancestry from the initial arrival of settlers in the early 1600s to the American Revolution in 1776. Mimic the likes of any Virginia patriot, such as Patrick Henry, George and Martha Washington or James Madison. Grab a fake torch and come as Lord Dunmore, the Virginia governor from 1771 to 1776 who burned Norfolk to the ground after locals refused his British leadership. The infamy earned him a street name and a hasty trip back to England.
